Tyrannosaurus Rex

Tyrannosaurus Rex lived during the late Cretaceous Period. It was one of the biggest theropod dinosaurs that ever lived, but actually not the biggest! Spinosaurus and Giganotosaurus were a similar size, if not bigger than T Rex.

Tyrannosaurus Rex would have stood up on its powerful back legs, which were about 3 metres, and would have been about 6 metres tall. From its head to its tail it would have been about 12 metres long. It had three incredibly sharp claws on its feet and two on its hands.

T Rex had incredibly tiny arms for the size of his body, much smaller than other theropods. Palaeontologists are still unsure why their arms were so small and what they would have used them for but still think, despite their size, they were very powerful.

Tyrannosaurus Rex had a massive head which would have been about one and a half metres long. It had a big brain in comparison to other large theropods, so it is believed that it was quite clever. It is thought it would have had very good vision, and could have seen in front and to the sides. It also had an excellent sense of smell. All of which meant it was excellent at catching its prey!

It had incredibly powerful jaws, potentially the most powerful ever, and two rows of up to 60 terrifying razor sharp teeth which were about 20 centimetres long, although the longest T Rex tooth found was actually 30 centimetres! T Rex’s jaws were so huge he could have eaten 500lbs in one bite, which is about the same as eating 2000 burgers, 4 people or 1 gorilla!
