My Top 3 Cities around the World
I live in London, the capital city of England and it is a fabulous city with so much to see and do but I do love to visit other places around the world too. There are so many cities that are amazing to visit so it was hard to pick just 3 but I think I am happy with my choices! Find out what my top 3 cities in the world are (apart from London!)…
My Top 3 Cities around the World No. 1...New York
New York is my No.1 favourite city in the world. New York is a place on the East Coast of America. It is made up of 5 boroughs called Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island and The Bronx. When you are thinking about New York you are probably thinking about Manhattan.
New York is called many things, including the Big Apple and the city that never sleeps. It is an incredibly busy place with people everywhere, yellow cabs, school buses and cars zooming all around and bright lights of theatre shows, shops and restaurants open all hours of the day.
Visiting New York...
In New York they speak English, or an American version of it which can get a bit confusing as sometimes they use different words than us for things, for example they call crisps chips, trainers sneakers and rubbish trash.
Getting around the city is very easy. You can walk pretty much everywhere, which is a great way of seeing the sights. The subway that runs underneath the city is like the London Underground and can get you anywhere fast. And if you are brave you can get in a yellow cab and brave the busy New York traffic.
There is no shortage of food and drink to eat in New York. There is a coffee shop on almost every block, food trucks selling hot dogs and pretzels, pizza places where you can buy the biggest slices of pizza you’ve ever seen as well as every type of restaurant you can imagine.
Famous Places and Landmarks..
New York is so full of famous places and landmarks that there are far too many for me to mention. Most you might already recognise even if you have never been there.
Times Square is an incredibly busy area in the middle of New York which is pretty much open all day and night. Central Park is a huge park in the middle of the city which has huge green spaces, lakes, playgrounds and even a zoo. Broadway is a famous area with lots of amazing theatres shows to watch.
The Empire State Building was once the worlds tallest building. Now it is only the 43rd tallest! Even in New York there are now three buildings taller than it. It was built in only 13 months, from 1930-1931 which is incredibly fast for a building with 102 floors. Despite not being the tallest building anymore it is a huge tourist attraction and many people go up to the observation deck to see the views of New York from above.
The Statue of Liberty is a monument representing American freedom that was given to America by France. It is on a little island called Liberty Island so to visit it you have to get on a ferry. You can actually go inside the statue and look out from the pedestal or even go higher right up into the crown. Unbelievably the Statue of Liberty gets struck by lightening over 600 times a year!
The Brooklyn Bridge is a suspension bridge between Manhattan and Brooklyn and it is built across the East River. It is quite a historic landmark as its been over 140 years since it was first opened. Walking across it gives you great views of Manhattan and gives you an opportunity to visit Brooklyn.

My Top 3 Cities around the World No 2...Paris
Paris is my second favourite city, it is the capital of France and its largest city. It has the nickname The City of Lights. It is an incredibly old city and has existed for a long time. It was redesigned in part over one hundred years ago, turning many of the old small winding narrow streets into wide straight boulevards with grand buildings made out of white stone.
Visiting Paris...
In Paris they speak French. Do you know any French words? In French Hello is Bonjour, My name is Jet is Je m’appelle Jet and thank you is Merci.
Getting around Paris is again very easy because of their transport system. The Metro is an underground system of trains just like the London Underground and the New York Subway. Did you know you can actually get a train from London to Paris? It is called the Eurostar and you can get it from St Pancras Station in London and it will take you through a tunnel under the English Channel and to Gare du Nord Station in Paris.
There is lots of delicious food to eat in Paris…and some that is not maybe to everyone’s taste! France has amazing coffee and hot chocolate, croissants, macarons, crunchy french bread and delicious cheese to eat. Dishes its well known for are the croque-monsieur, a cheese and ham toasted sandwich, french onion soup and tarte tatin, a yummy apple desert. Things that you probably wouldn’t want to try if you were in Paris are snails, frogs legs and sea urchin but lots of people do, apparently!
Famous Places and Landmarks...
Running through Paris is the River Seine. It runs past many of the landmarks famous in Paris. I enjoyed going on a boat ride on it and seeing Paris from the water. On an island in the middle of the Seine there is a small version of the Statue of Liberty, remember it was the French who made it for America so they have a version in Paris too.
The Eiffel Tower is probably one of the worlds most well known landmarks. When it was completed in 1889 it was the tallest structure in the world. Millions of people visit the Eiffel Tower to view it from the ground but to also go up to the top, stopping at the three different viewing platforms it has. You get an amazing view of Paris form the top.
The Arc de Triomphe is another landmark Paris is famous for. It is a memorial the shape of an arch and is in the middle of a massive roundabout. Many long straight boulevards lead to it so you can get a great view of it from many places in the city. The best view is from the top, you can climb to the top of the arch and get amazing views of Paris from here too…but this time can see the Eiffel Tower too.
Notre Dame is a beautiful grand cathedral in Paris. It was built on a big island in the middle of the River Seine. In 2019 there was a fire in the Cathedral but luckily it was eventually put out without being completely destroyed and lots of work was put into fixing it.

My Top 3 Cities around the World No. 3...Sydney
While my first two choices were easy I struggled to just choose one more city, but I think Sydney is my 3rd favourite city to visit. Sydney is the capital city of New South Wales but not the whole of Australia. It is Australia’s oldest city and was created in 1842. Australia is an incredibly big country and Sydney can be found on the south eastern coast. It is Australia’s largest city and home to about 4 million people.
Visiting Sydney...
In Sydney they speak English, which is a bit of a mix between the English and American versions.
Just like any big city there are lots of different ways to get around but my favourite was the ferries and the hop on off bus.
There is plenty of yummy food to eat, they like a lot of fish being on the coast and Barramundi, oysters and prawns are popular. One thing I really enjoyed trying was Lamingtons, they are big squares of cake covered in chocolate and coconut and are really nice!
Famous Places and Landmarks...
Sydney is a coastal city and has some beautiful beaches to visit, in fact it has over one hundred beaches! The most famous is probably Bondi Beach but because this beach is so well known though it can be very busy and there are plenty of other beaches that are just as nice to visit.
Sydney Harbour is massive and a really lovely place to visit. It is also where you will see the two most famous landmarks in the city, the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
Sydney Opera House is by far Sydney’s most famous landmark. It was designed as part of a competition in 1957 and was created to look like the sails of a boat. It took much longer to build than it should have done and was finally opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1973.
Sydney Harbour Bridge is nicknamed the coat hanger because of its shape. It was opened in 1932 and took eight years to build. It is one of the longest steel arch bridges in the world. It is a really big bridge, with 8 lanes for cars to travel over it and two train lines too.
Sydney Tower Eye is the tallest structure in Sydney and was designed to give you amazing views of all of Sydney.
