Capital Cities in Great Britain
I would like to show you what it is like around the world but first thought I should give you a little tour closer to home!
We live in Great Britain, which is made up of three different countries called England, Scotland and Wales. Each of these countries have a capital city. A capital city is usually where the countries government meets and is usually a place that has been important to the country for many years.
Capital Cities in Great Britain - London
London is the capital city of England. It is full of amazing landmarks, some very old such as the Tower of London and some much newer such as the Shard. It is the home of the Houses of Parliament and the main home of the Queen, Buckingham Palace. London is somewhere the Whizzbots visit a lot so you’ll find lots of information about it on the website.

Although many people call this Big Ben, that is actually the name for the bell inside the tower.
The London Eye was supposed to be temporary when it was built.
The Shard is the tallest building in London and was finished being built in 2012.
St Paul's Cathedral was built after the Great Fire of London.
A famous bridge on the River Thames, the middle of Tower Bridge can open to let tall ships to pass through.
Capital Cities in Great Britain - Edinburgh
Edinburgh is the capital city of Scotland. A lot of the buildings are made of sandstone and it is a beautiful city to explore. Looking over everything is Edinburgh Castle. It is built on top of an old extinct volcano called Castle Rock! The castle looks a bit more like an important house but it does have some defensive features. I was lucky to come across someone playing the bagpipes, which is an instrument you probably won’t find anyone playing outside of Scotland!

Capital Cities in Great Britain - Cardiff
Cardiff is the capital city of Wales. It has had a fortification there since Roman times and the Norman built keep is still there today. Cardiff became a bigger city due to the coal mines around it and workers made their home in Cardiff. Jet enjoyed visiting Cardiff castle and Cardiff Bay while he was there but the thing he enjoyed most of all was Joe’s Ice Cream! If you go to visit Wales you have to try it, it’s the best ice cream ever!

This building was built using materials important to Wales, such as metal, slate and glass.
This building was built over 100 years ago. The fountains were added much later in 1969 to celebrate Prince Charles becoming the Prince of Wales.
